I loved that even though she was scared shitless at times not understanding the world around her, she was willing to fight and protect those she cared for. I could understand her reluctance to put her whole heart on the line with what she lived through with her evil father. She did have a few moments in the start of the book where I was kinda rolling my eyes, but she really grew into her own. Perfect! I loved the way he was with Janie and how he tried so hard to make Cara and Janie happy. There was nothing about him I would change. He was domineering, arrogant with a sweetness under that hard soldier exterior. So damn sexy, protective, strong, and pure 100% kick ass alpha male. “Cara,” he leaned forward in his chair, “before this night has ended you will have no doubt you’ve been mated.”-Talen And Cara”- his voice dropped to a rumble-“you’re mine.” -Talen I don't know what magic this book has over me but me and this book just click! It doesn't matter how many times I read this book I love it more and more each time. I fell madly in love with Talen, his brothers Dage, Jase, and Conn, Cara, her sister Em, Jordan, Katie, and little Janie. OMG I loved this book so hard! Fated, the 1st book in the Dark Protectors series by Rebecca Zanetti was amazing. The fascinating tales in The Disappearing Spoon follow elements on the table as they play out their parts in human history, finance, mythology, conflict, the arts, medicine, and the lives of the (frequently) mad scientists who discovered them.Īdapted for a middle grade audience, the young readers edition of The Disappearing Spoon offers the material in a simple, easy-to-follow format, with approximately 20 line drawings and sidebars throughout. The periodic table is a crowning scientific achievement, but it's also a treasure trove of adventure, greed, betrayal, and obsession. This Study Guide consists of approximately 48 pages of chapter summaries, quotes, character analysis, themes, and more - everything you need to sharpen your knowledge of The Disappearing Spoon. Why did Gandhi hate iodine (I, 53)? How did radium (Ra, 88) nearly ruin Marie Curie's reputation? And why did tellurium (Te, 52) lead to the most bizarre gold rush in history? The Disappearing Spoon - Part I: Chapters 1-3 Summary & Analysis. A young readers edition of the New York Times bestseller The Disappearing Spoon, chronicling the extraordinary stories behind one of the greatest scientific tools in existence: the periodic table. “Are either of you mentally unstable, schizophrenic, or on drugs?,” Andrea Canning asked on Good Morning America. The “Whackers,” they said, were the same people who may have “killed” David Carradine and Heath Ledger, possibly set up Robert Blake, and could now be targeting Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan. “They” were “the Hollywood Star Whackers” the couple had been talking about in television interviews ever since they arrived in Canada in October, seeking asylum. Evi Quaid called from a pay phone in Vancouver to say that she and her husband, Randy, the actor, had tried to drive to Siberia, but they “couldn’t figure out how to get there.” She said, “We’re running for our lives.” She wanted me to meet them the next day in Vancouver’s Chinatown-which couldn’t be arranged any other way, as the Quaids don’t use cell phones anymore, because, Evi said, “they’re tracking us.” Imaginative, witty and consistent - as in consistently funny, consistently clever and consistently surprising. He may write benign comedy but he knows how horribly complicated and exciting the Universe is. Whenever I read his stories I find myself thinking that he is "grown up". I could tell which of my fellow tube passengers had downloaded it to their e-readers by the bouts of spontaneous laughter. he remains one of the most consistently funny writers around a master of the stealth simile, the time-delay pun and the deflationary three-part list. The genius of Pratchett is that he never goes for the straight allegory. at once hilariously cynical and idealistically practical. Pratchett has been rightly praised for comic invention and whimsy he does not always get enough credit for the psychological comedy of embarrassment which makes us blush with self-recognition. The Discworld novels have always been among the most serious of comedies, the most relevant and real of fantasies. I read his books at a gallop and then reread them every time I am ill or exhausted Guardian Which was going to be hard, because there wasnt one. a master of complex jokes, good bad jokes, good dreadful jokes and a kind of insidious wisdom about human nature. RT crexcrex: Good morning hope you are ready for this week He was determined to discover the underlying logic behind the universe. This feels more like a first draft than an ARC. So who better to save it than three quirky cool girls, am I right.Įxcept that the first two thirds (TWO!!! THIRDS!!!!) is just them finding out that the bookstore is failing, so the plot feels super lopsided and almost deus ex machina-y and lame. This Is All Your Fault is about a ragtag group of teen girls (and also boys, but they are continually just forgotten about, even as they exist in the same building as the aforementioned girls) who work in a bookstore and then must save the bookstore because that quirky cool bookstore is closing. Then I kept reading, and it kept disappointing me, and it became a generous 3.Īnd then I had the miraculous experience that is watching Empire Records, and we all boarded the rating train straight to Twosville. This book ripped off Empire Records, and it didn’t even do that good of a job.īefore reading this, I had never seen Empire Records, and I felt like this could be a 4.5 star read. Not an adaptation of this book, which is not out yet, but somehow already exists. If you feel at all compelled to read this book, I must recommend you watch a movie instead. I am about to say something that I have never, ever said before: There was also some side storylines which included suspense and danger that were a nice addition to this bully romance. Carter made a good bully and though he can’t justify the things he does to her, he has a conscience and ends up feeling bad. This book was quite steamy, just the way I like them. However when he sees her in a new light he goes for it.įor some reason Raine keeps inadvertently making Carter mad at her, but in the midst of it all she finds herself wanting him. The Love Story: Carter feels something for Raine, though he doesn’t understand it since she hides herself away and does her best to escape his notice. She suffers from a bit of social anxiety and tries to make herself invisible in clothes that are too big. Though her aunt is friends with Carter’s parents. She is not wealthy like Carter and the rest of the student body since her uncle left her and her aunt. The heroine: Raine Laurent – Lives next to Carter Blackthorne and attends Alstone High with him. Though he is insecure at times, especially when his parents tell him to try and be more like Raine. Carter is an alpha male with all the arrogant, dominant and possessive traits that make a great bully. The Hero(s): Carter Blackthorne – Football player and self proclaimed King of the school along with his friends Kian and Xavier. Stand-alone Bully Romance with ties to The Four series!
